INSTITUTE FOR INTERNATIONAL SPORT 5-YEAR EVENT CALENDAR 2007 On April 18, 2007, Nobel Peace Prize winner Elie Wiesel joined Dan Doyle at a major conference at the Rhode Island State House to announce the 2011 World Youth Peace Summit. The World Youth Peace Summit will be held in 2011 in conjunction with the World Scholar-Athlete Games and the Institute's 25th anniversary. Present at the World Youth Peace Summit will be thousands of past participants in the Institute's Scholar-Athlete Games programs, as well as other youth and adults from throughout the world. Collaborators in the project will include the United Nations, through their partnership with the Institute. In 2007, the Institute administered a number of highly successful programs, including National Sportsmanship Day and a Center for Sports Leadership pilot program for Rhode Island coaches and student-athletes. The pilot program served as the Rhode Island launch for the Hassenfeld-Hogg Center for Sports Leadership program. This leadership program includes the construction of the Hassenfeld-Hogg Center for Sports Leadership building, which will open adjacent to the International Scholar-Athlete Hall of Fame. In December 2007, Dan Doyle’s “The Encyclopedia of Sports Parenting” was placed for sale on-line, in preparation for distribution to bookstores in spring ’08. Most importantly, over the course of 2007, the Institute planned future events including the 2008 United States Scholar-Athlete Games and the 2011 World Youth Peace which, as noted, will encompass the World Scholar-Athlete Games. The calendar for 2008-2011 is as follows: 2008
